The yearly Mother's Day mini-musical concert by the St Venera Philharmonic Society was this year moved forward by a week to coincide with the 46th anniversary of the society's foundation.

Assistant secretary Alfred Mizzi delivered a speech in which he paid tribute to the first six men, who guided by the then St Venera Chaplain Fr Killian Azzopardi, worked endlessly to establish the band club.

Victor Zammit, the first secretary of the band club also made a short speech. Society president Michael Azzopardi gave a speech, after which a commemorative plaque was unveiled by St Venera chaplain Fr Alexander Scerri and blessed the plaque.

Also present for this activity was St Venera mayor Elisabeth Vella, representatives of the various local social clubs, parents of musical students and members of the club.

The Youth Section of the Band played various musical pieces conducted by Maestro Michael Ciantar, the club's musical director.
