Anthony Grech and Justyne Zammit were remanded in custody today after having been accused in court of stealing beach bags at Ghajn Tuffieha on two occasions.

The two were accused of stealing a total of over €1,000 contained in the bags.

The bags belonged to three young foreign women and to Rodney Gauci (one of the main actors in Deceduti)

The accused initially admitted stealing a bag belonging to Mr Gauci but their plea was changed to 'not guilty' after they insisted they were not involved in the theft of the bags belonging to the three women.

One of the women told the court that  last Thursday they were swimming at Ghajn Tuffieha when they noticed that a bag was missing. They alerted the lifeguard and gave him a description of the bag. He dashed off to the car park and when he returned he said he had seen a car being driven off, with a man and a woman in it. He also found one of the towels belonging to the girls in the car park.

The court ordered that the couple be remanded in custody until the lifeguard gives evidence.
