Our Lady of Sorrows has a special place in the heart of many Roman Catholics. Every year, thousands of pilgrims follow the statue of Our Lady in processions held across the island. They pray in silence, some walking barefoot as a sign of sacrifice, as was the case at Stella Maris parish in Sliema (above).
