Summer signing Paulo Dybala netted a late penalty to earn Juventus a 1-1 draw against Chievo as the Serie A champions' poor start to the season continued.

The Bianconeri were facing a third straight league defeat when Perparim Hetemaj gave Chievo an early lead, with Juventus squandering several chances to equalise before Dybala levelled matters 10 minutes from time.

Juve sit 16th in the table with Chievo leading the way at the top, despite missing out on a third successive win.

Massimiliano Allegri's men had lost two on the bounce before the international break and started in the worst possible fashion when Hetemaj fired home from the edge of the box after five minutes.

Juventus fought back, creating chances through Hernanes and Roberto Pereyra, but they could not break down a resilient Chievo defence which had kept a clean sheet in the impressive 4-0 win over Lazio.

Paul Pogba was brought on at half-time but it was Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon who was first in action, pushing a shot from Bostjan Cesar onto the post.

Chievo goalkeeper Albano Bizzarri then had to be at his best to deny Hernanes, whose free-kick in the 80th minute needed another good save.

In the end it needed a penalty to bring things level. Cesar fouled Juan Cuadrado and Dybala stepped up to score his third goal of the season.
