Is there any MP, Mellieħa council member or some other responsible person willing to draw the attention of the minister concerned regarding the ridiculous and horrendous situation prevailing at the Manikata road leading to Mellieħa?

This is really becoming a nightmare for all drivers, especially now that the summer months are fast approaching.

Apart from its condition, which is deteriorating by the day due to the heavy vehicles going through, it seems nobody ever thought of widening this stretch of road no longer than 200 metres to at least allow two vehicles to drive in opposite direction unhindered. When arrogant drivers are adamant to give way, other motorists would have no alternative but to reverse and seek an alternative route.

Besides, it seems this road will soon be dug up as the presence of water pipes indicate.

Another concern is the deteriorating concrete passage between Għajn Tuffieħa and Mellieħa, which offers an alternative route to drivers wanting to avoid the narrow stretch I have just mentioned. It is not rocket science to introduce traffic lights at either end of this bottleneck, which will surely be a blessing to motorists.

The rest of the road leading from Manikata chapel to the Mellieħa bypass is also in a terrible and dangerous state. Is it possible no MP noticed the shameful state of this road? I assume it does not feature on the priority list of roads to be widened. Is this because there are no votes to be won or, perhaps, in preparation for the implementation of the Gozo tunnel works?

The government is not worried at the least with what affects Gozitans given its strong parliamentary majority. Besides Gozitans may be more interested in what goes on in front of their house and in their back garden rather than at the Manikata road.

I would really like to be proved wrong.

This passive, apathetic and could-not-care-less attitude is becoming engrained in society.
