An elderly woman was killed after the car she was riding in collided with a parked vehicle in Baħrija.

Police said the incident happened at 1.30pm in Triq Bieb ir-Ruwa in a tranquil locality normally spared of traffic accidents.

Police said a Toyota car, driven by a 56-year-old with the victim riding as a passenger, crashed into a parked Landrover. 

An ambulance was called to the scene but the victim, a resident of Rabat was certified dead on the spot. 

A magisterial inquiry has been ordered. 

The police are investigating. 

It is the third road fatality today. A 72-year-old pedestrian was killed when he was hit by a car on Aldo Moro Road in Marsa while a person was killed and six more were grievously injured following an early morning crash between an ambulance and a car in Xemxija.
