A partial eclipse of the sun can be observed from Malta at daybreak on Friday.

The Astronomical Society said that on that day the sun rises at 7:11 a.m. and the last traces of the lunar bite will depart from the solar disc about half an hour later, at 7:47 a.m.

Care should be taken when observing the eclipse with the naked eye or through an optical instrument, even though the sun will be low in the sky.

The only safe way to look at the Sun directly, either with or without optical aid, is through a solar filter such as a No. 14 arc-welder's glass, available at ironmongeries, the society said.
