A 40-year-old man suffered fractures this morning when his Daihatsu HI van crashed into a tree in the Mriehel Bypass.

Rescuers had to intervene to pull him from the wreckage before he was rushed to hospital in an ambulance and found to have suffered leg fractures. His injuries are not life threatening.

The busy road was partly closed for traffic because of an oil spill which caused a number of minor collisions involving six cars.

The road has now reopened.
