More than 1,000 persons being supervised by a probation order or who have benefitted from parole are currently receiving treatment to address addictions such as gambling and drugs, as well as anger management.

This was stated by Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela today during the inauguration of the new Department of Probation and Parole offices in Marsa.

The new premises offer better facilities and more privacy for the 24 probation officers and two forensic psychologists employed with the entity.

Mr Abela underlined the fact that the old Valletta premises were rather limited to the point that some cases had to be referred to other government entities.

He said treatment in anger management, which was only introduced last year, had been a great success, and participants had doubled from 24 to 50.
