This morning's sitting of the House of Representatives was interrupted for the Speaker to deliver a ruling after Nationalist Whip David Agius insisted that the timetable of the House should be as agreed in the House Business Committee.

Amid interruptions, he said that the House was meant to hold its next sitting this evening at 6 p.m. and not at 2 p.m. followed by 6 p.m.

The House is currently discussing the Individual Investor Programme, which includes the citizenship for sale scheme.

Minister Louis Grech, Leader of the House, said the government had decided on the number of sittings based on the fact that more Nationalist MPs wished to speak. More sittings would be held if more MPs wished to speak.

The sitting was suspended for 30 minutes.

The Speaker then ruled that the House may meet at 2 p.m. because what it decided could over-ride what was decided in the House Business Committee.

However the House then adjourned to 6 p.m.
