This evening's parliamentary sitting was suspended for a few minutes amid a shouting bout between the two sides.

The issue started when Justice Minister Owen Bonnici asked what steps would the Opposition take with regard to Shadow Minister Jason Azzopardi who the Auditor General yesterday said should carry political responsibility for the way a tract of land in Qormi, valued at €8 million, was given away by the then government “for peanuts”

PN deputy leader Beppe Fenech Adami said the minister formed part of the most corrupt government in Malta’s history and the Prime Minister was not even in a position to rein in his ministers. The Opposition would not take any lectures on corruption from Dr Bonnici, he said.

The minister again asked whether Dr Azzopardi was going to bear political responsibility for his action.

It was here that a shouting match ensued and the sitting was suspended.
