Parliament may soon be getting its own Twitter account and the final decision on its implementation is set to the taken by the House Business Committee, Speaker Anglu Farrugia said this evening.

The Speaker was replying to a Parliamentary question by shadow minister Jason Azzopardi who asked if the Speaker could consider Parliament having its own Facebook and Twitter accounts to get closer to the people.

Dr Farrugia said an initial decision for Parliament to be present on the social media through a Twitter account was taken by Parliament’s administrative committee in October.

The final decision on which medium was to be used and how this was to be implemented was left to the House Business Committee, he said.
