Recently I had to visit Mater Dei Hospital on different occasions in a very short period of time.

To my annoyance, I noticed that the pay-as-you-park car park, situated on four levels, has been divided between staff and visitors (two levels each) because of the works which are to take place in connection with the setting up of the Oncology Department.

With all due respect to the staff, who are entitled to have their own parking space, this is not the way to tackle such a solution! Before starting works on the Oncology Department, the hospital management should have created an alternative parking site for all staff and left the visitor’s car park to live up to its name.

As a result of this grossly wrong decision, those who call at Mater Dei during peak hours are finding it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to park their car because evidently two levels are not enough! I witnessed with my own eyes cars going round in circles, trying to find a parking slot without success. Confusion reigned supreme!

In view of these appalling circumstances, may I call on the hospital management to take the bull by its horns and tackle this problem immediately and provide adequate parking facilities to all visitors. Remember that no one calls at Mater Dei capriciously – people are already burdened by various problems; do not continue to add more problems!
