The Splash and Fun Park is not causing any contamination at Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq and the water that occasionally flows out onto the beach is clean, the owner is insisting.

Patrick Vella claimed that the flow only happened twice this summer. It was caused by an overflow when the park was filling its reservoirs.

“This happened only twice this year – in June and July – and both were accidental. It was only water that flowed out until we realised that the reservoir was full. We have big pumps so it’s quite a gush of water, but it’s clean. The dirt you see is the dust carried from the ground on the way to the sea,” Mr Vella said.

He said the park never intended to cause any inconvenience to swimmers in the area. He pointed out this used to happen more often in the past, when the water used for cleaning ended up on the rocks.

“Following complaints we invested to ensure that the water goes into the drains,” Mr Vella said.

Asked about a constant trickle of water that flows out of a new culvert that passes beneath the park to collect rainwater and divert it to the sea he insisted this is not the property of the park and needs to be addressed by the authorities.
