Paola Local Council is seeking the payment of damages for noise pollution which it claims is being caused by the operation of route buses at an interchange in Paola Square, close to Hibs club.

The council today filed an application in court against Arriva, Transport Malta and the Transport Ministry.

It recalled that it filed a judicial protest about the same issue last November because the noise being produced by the buses exceeded levels allowed by the World Health Organisation.

Furthermore, work on this bus interchange was carried out without the necessary Mepa permit.

Two meetings with Transport Malta had not yielded results, the council said.

It added that the interchange was hindering its plans to embellish the square.

The council said the excessive noise was causing physical and economic damages to residents, who were being deprived of the enjoyment of their properties.
