The first Palestinian business delegation to Malta arrived yesterday for a series of meet-ings with the local business sector.

The delegation, whose visit is being supported by the Foreign Affairs Ministry through the Malta representative office in Ramallah and Malta Enterprise, is made up of seven companies exclusively from the ICT sector.

It is led by the CEO of the Palestinian Information Technology Association of Companies and Palestine Information and Communications Technology Incubator.

The Palestinian ICT sector has grown significantly over the past 10 years. The average annual ICT value added has been around eight per cent with some years showing a growth of over 50 per cent.

Its contribution to GDP has been growing from about three per cent in 1999 to reach five per cent in 2008.

This growing performance was achieved under very severe political and economic conditions.
