On July 14, 2009 I signed a bundle service agreement with Go plc to purchase its home pack for €33 a month. The pack included two free set-top boxes and the service access fee of one set-top box. I also agreed to pay another €2.33 a month for an additional set-top box including the access fee.

Lo and behold, after six months, Go decided to increase the charge for the additional set-top box by 66c a month. By letter-circular dated December 1, 2009 I was informed by Go that as from January 1, 2010 the monthly network access fee applicable on each additional set-top box will change to €2.99 monthly. It is true that if I do not agree I may discontinue the service but, as far as I am concerned, the agreement is still in force. Moreover, I purchased the pack purposely because I needed two set-top boxes and, therefore, I am not inclined to do away with the second one.

What irks me most is not the increase in itself but the fact that, after enticing me with their summer special home pack offer, in a matter of months the charges go up at the whims and fancy of Go. When challenged, Go always justify their actions by the all-encompassing part of the agreement reading "Terms and conditions apply".

How ironic that, at this time of year, instead of giving Go is introducing additional charges on packages, which a few months ago were sold as special offers.

This should be an eye-opener for all those thinking of purchasing similar packages from Go.

They should be aware that whatever charges may be levied now may be increased in a few months' time.

At least this has been my own experience.
