The administration of Paceville should be hived off St Julian's local council and handled by a separate and distinct body representing the various interests present in Paceville, not least the private sector, the women's branch of the Labour Party said today.

The section made its suggestion as part of a government consultation process.

Nisa Luburisti said Paceville cannot realistically continue to be considered as a primarily residential area and consequently it should be administered in a way that is more conducive for an entertainment area.

Other proposals put forward by NL call for a stronger enforcement role to be exercised by the Malta Tourism Authority and the setting up of a special contributory fund by club owners designated for the cleanliness and upkeep of Paceville.

NL said the government to give more concrete assistance to NGOs involved in the Paceville area.

Other forms of entertainment should also be sought for those aged under 17.

The section also called for a media and schools campaign on the responsibilities of parents and young people respectively.
