The amount of criminality in Paceville has gone “substantially”, Home Affairs Minister Michael Farrugia said, attributing this to more police on patrol.
MP Edward Zammit Lewis asked about the police presence in a parliamentary question.
Dr Farrugia said that the number of officers allocated to Paceville has been boosted considerably over the years.
In 2013, there were between three and five officers there in the low season from January to May, and 12 to 15 on the weekends. In the high season between June and September, there would be still be three to five on weekdays and 10-13 on weekends.
Since summer of 2017, the numbers have increased. In low season from 8pm to 5am from Monday to Thursdays, at least 12 are present, with 25 on Fridays and Saturdays, and 20 on Sundays. In high season, police presence is even higher, with 20, 30 and 25 officers respectively. In addition, a contingent from the Special Intervention Unit is present on weekends.
