Candidate Master Colin Pace retained his crown as Malta champion following his success in the 74th National Finals held recently at the Malta Chess Federation premises in Sliema.

This was Pace’s fourth title following his triumphs of 2003, 2006 and 2008. He scored 7-10 with five wins, four draws and one loss.

Pace started playing at the age of 12 at St Paul’s Missionary College and two years later featured in his first local tournament organised by the federation.

He was twice Malta Junior Champion (1997 and 1999) and represented the country several times overseas, most notably in the U-16 Olympiad and Chess Olympiads in Yerevan 1996, Kalmykia 1998, Bled 2002, Mallorca 2004, Torino 2006 and Dresden 2008.
