The wait for the new ministerial code of ethics, which has been in the offing for nearly two years, could be further delayed even though Justice Minister Owen Bonnici is now saying it will be published “in the coming days”.

Dr Bonnici’s promise, made yesterday, follows similar pledges over the course of a year, when the time frame varied repeatedly – from “soon” to “imminently”.

Following these missed deadlines, Dr Bonnici took a more cautious approach last October and said the code would be published at the “opportune” moment.

Replying to Times of Malta yesterday during a news conference in Mosta as part of Labour’s local council election campaign, Dr Bonnici said the government was taking the issue of good governance very seriously.
