Grants of €900 per month are being offered by the French Embassy for postgraduate scientific research internships of between one and six months in duration in a French laboratory or research institution.

Travel grants of up to €300 are also being offered by the Malta Council for Science and Technology.

The deadline for applications for internships starting between March and May is January 31, while that for internships starting between June and December 2010 is March 31.

Knowledge of French is not a prerequisite.

Japan

A grant of €14,800 is available for University of Malta students to undertake a traineeship through industrial placements in Japan under the Vulcanus programme, from September 2010 to August 2011. The grant covers travel and living expenses in Japan.

Applicants must be EU citizens, and at least in their 3rd year of studies in information technology, architecture, biology, chemistry, engineering (construction, civil, electronics, mechanical, robotics, materials), mathematics or physics.

The application is to reach the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation in Brussels by January 20.
