On Saturday, Marsa CC took on the newly-established Overseas Rugby Cricket Club in a friendly 30-over game.

Paul Gibbs and Frank Spiteri opened the batting for Overseas after winning the toss. They started in great style, smashing three four's and two two's off the first five balls faced but were eventually bowled by Ronnie Sacco.

Gibbs top-scored for his team with 33. The only other batsmen who reached double figures were Brian Corlett, 17, Piers Allen, 11, and Matt Birkwood, 24 not out. Birkwood hit the only six in the game and later on also took two wickets.

With 16 extra runs, Overseas totalled 153 all out in the 27th over.

For Marsa, Andrew Naudi took two wickets. Desmond Don Paul also took two as a further six bowlers took one wicket each. Jason Muscat finally took his first wicket of the year.

In their reply, Marsa had John Callus bowled out early on. Then, John Farrugia made 16 runs, Sam Dhandapani, in his first game for a month, hit seven four's in an inspiring 41 runs, Andrew Naudi 23 and Sacco 20.

The Overseas bowlers were rather rusty in their debut and gave away 29 extras which helped Marsa topple the required score of 154.

The return match is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.
