The government saved a total of €3.3 million between July last year and June this year after taking action on 975 beneficiaries found to have been abusing the social security system.

Social Policy Minister John Dalli told Adrian Vassallo (PL) that the greatest number of cases, 207, was related to social benefits, followed by 188 cases related to sickness benefits, 126 to unemployment benefits, 118 to children's allowance, 87 to single parent's benefits and 74 to old age pensions.
