During the first six months of the year more than 750 businessmen contacted Maltese embassies in various parts of the world, Foreign Minister Tonio Borg told Maltese ambassadors during their annual meeting in Malta. This shows a growth of 36 per cent in contacts when compared to the whole year of 2009.

The three day seminar addressed current diplomatic, economic and social issues not only in the European Union but also in the Mediterranean and the Balkan regions, which are of key strategic importance for the country’s social and economic development.

The ambassadors were also addressed by Malta Enterprise on economic diplomacy and on foreign direct investment. The aim of this presentation was to give new ideas and equip the ambassadors with the knowledge on how to attract investment in Malta.

Dr Borg said during the first 28 months of this legislature the ministry signed 99 agreements with different countries.
