Over the past two years Transport Malta has issued 12,063 tickets for contraventions, Transport Minister Austin Gatt told Parliament in reply to a question by Labour MP Anġlu Farrugia.

Minister Gatt added that the contraventions had brought in €65,941.

The reasons for the issuing of the tickets included vehicles belonging to ADT employees parked in ADT bays, and bus drivers failing to report for work. There were nine cases that could not be processed because vehicles were foreign-registered and three because they bore false registration plates or vehicle licence disks. Two cases involved vehicles belonging to ministries and three to the Malta Police.
