Wied iz-Zurrieq may have got a refurbishment over the past few weeks but divers who visited the area two days ago were disappointed to find out that stone cores that were drilled to install the new railing were left abandoned on the rocks, with some of them even ending up on the seabed.

Parts of the old railing that was replaced also ended up under the sea.

The divers told timesofmalta.com they could not understand why the refurbishment works were not completed with a thorough clean up of the area from debris generated by the same works. “As a consequence some of the debris has now ended up on the seabed to the detriment of the underwater environment,” they said.

The seabed is also littered with bricks, which, however are not from recent works.

“All we are asking is for the authorities to clean up the area and the seabed,” the divers said.
