Romanian player Carmen Amariei-Lungu has been handed a two-year ban after signing for two different clubs, the Romanian Handball Federation said.

Amariei returned from Denmark after winning her second Champions League trophy with Slagelse earlier this year and agreed to join Univeritatea Jolidon Cluj. However, she later changed her mind and signed with Rulmentul Brasov.

Rugby - Bergamasco gets two-week club ban

Italy back Mirco Bergamasco was banned for two weeks of club matches on Wednesday after being found guilty of tripping Scotland's Dan Parks in last Saturday's World Cup Pool C match in St Etienne.

Bergamasco escaped punishment at the time but was later cited and Wednesday's hearing ruled that the trip was deliberate.

Italy lost the match 18-16 to exit the tournament.

Motor racing - Franchitti for NASCAR

Indianapolis 500 and IndyCar series champion Dario Franchitti will switch to NASCAR for the 2008 season.

The 34-year-old Briton will become the first European driver in NASCAR history to join the series full time. He signed a multi-year deal to join Chip Ganassi Racing.

Franchitti has 18 victories and 17 pole positions in his US open-wheel career. He will drive the number 40 Dodge next season for Ganassi.
