The Harlem Globetrotters ended one of the longest road trips in basketball history on Tuesday, playing in the traditionally black New York neighbourhood of Harlem for the first time in 20 years. The comedy-and-hoops Globetrotters extended their perpetual winning streak over longtime foils the Washington Generals, 54-50, before nearly 500 students at the Harlem Armory Center. The 81-year-old team is trying to keep up with the times, launching a reality show next year searching for the next Globetrotter.

Motorcycling - Checa to leave MotoGP

Spanish rider Carlos Checa will leave MotoGP at the end of the season to ride for the Honda Ten Kate team in the World Superbike series. "I'm looking forward to this new challenge," Checa, who will be replaced at the LCR Honda MotoGP team by Frenchman Randy De Puniet, said. Checa won two 500cc races in 13 seasons in a top-flight career punctuated by crashes and falls. He made his debut in 250cc grand prix racing in 1993.

Olympics 2012 - Canoe venue change

London 2012 Olympics organisers may have to move the site of the canoe slalom venue after contamination was discovered at the proposed site. In what is the first setback in the so-far smooth progress towards delivering the infrastructure and venues, petrol and tar products were found in the water at the Spitalbrook site in Broxbourne, just north of London. An alternative site has been identified six miles further south should de-contamination work prove too costly.
