The Ornis Committee decided this evening that there were grounds for the application of a derogation to allow trapping for Golden Plover and Song Thrush.

Over the past two years live-capturing of Song Thrush was permitted between October 20 and December 31 whilst live-capturing of Golden Plover was permitted between October 20 and January 10.

The dates for this year's season will be announced by the government.

The European Commission launched infringement proceedings against Malta on the reopening of the trapping season last year, when trapping for finches was also allowed. Finches were not included in the decision taken today.
