The Ornis Committee this evening recommended that the government apply a derogation in order to allow trapping for seven species of finches in the autumn.

The last time such trapping was allowed was in 2008.

Trapping of golden plover and song thrush, which was allowed in the past two years, will continue.

The committee also recommended various control measures including national and individual bag limits and SMS reporting.

It will be up to the government to determine the length of the season.
