Song and tears at the 9/11 memorial in New York City today, where the 49 lives lost in a shooting rampage last Sunday at an Orlando nightclub were remembered with a moment of silence.

Omar Mateen, age 29, a US citizen born in New York to Afghan immigrants, killed 49 people and wounded 53 others in a shooting rampage in Orlando on Sunday inspired by Islamic State militants that stands as the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history.

Though Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, CIA Director John Brennan says no direct link had been found between the shooter and foreign terror groups.
