The inexplicable Christmas magic is already in the atmosphere. Some families have already started their preparations knowing that it will become chaotically crazy as Christmas comes closer. Instead of the usual decorations, this year opt for some unique Christmas themes. It will add that extra sparkle to the festivity and the effort will be rewarded with compliments on Christmas Day. We have pooled in our creative resources to rustle up a few themes to make Christmas merrier for our readers.

It is easier to decorate the house if you have a set theme in mind, because this unifies all the arrangements. It makes the entire décor consistent, right from the living room to the Christmas tree, and the garden. How about having a patriotic or cultural Maltese theme? We have a rich culture and what better time is there than Christmas to teach our children about it? Use the beautiful national flag for Santa's costume or make historical theme modeling of churches and important national monuments.

You might also opt to be bold, and in the name of world peace go for the representation of world religious with figures of the Dalai Lama, Lord Krishna and Buddha along with Jesus Christ in his crib.

We also have many mythical tales that can come alive during the festivities. Imagine recreating a pre-historic period with vegetation and animal models. It can bring a new fervor to the festivities.

More Christmas themes:

A monochromatic theme gives a uniform shade to the entire home. Solid metallic shades of gold or silver give an aesthetic look to the decor. If you wish to make it more colorful, go for red and green, gold and burgundy, blue and silver color schemes.

Try out a night sky theme. Use stars and planets with comets and rockets to complete the night sky.

A food theme around the ethnic cuisine of the Maltese Islands is another excellent idea. Use actual food and hand write the history of each dish on a scroll!

Plan a nature theme, placing the models of the vegetation, bird and animals peculiar to Malta. This is probably the most ideal way to go green this Christmas!

Love can also be a nice theme. Decorate everything in red and white like Valentine's day. Place red hearts everywhere with sweet nothings written on them. A theme of music, including musical instruments and images of greatest musicians is also an excellent thought!

Have a separate Christmas tree for children. Let them design it the way they want and watch their creatively flow.

If you love animals, use this theme too. Get animal soft toys, toy kennel and small stuffed animals as part of decorations. Use animal prints to decorate some areas.
