The English-Speaking Union (ESU) of Malta is holding a series of half-day workshops for primary and secondary school teachers of English, under the auspices of the Education Ministry.

The workshops provide a forum to discuss and share ideas promoting the development of oracy skills. Attendance is free on a first come, first served basis.

The workshops, entitled ‘Introduction to Oracy’, are being held at the ESU premises at Queen’s Court, Dingli Street, Sliema.

The aim of the programme is to heighten awareness of the importance of the development of pupils’ oracy skills.

Each workshop will focus on some of the ways in which teachers can encourage pupils to talk, using certain examples such as picture books, media-based discussions and English as a second language.

Teachers will then be given the opportunity to practise their own oracy skills through public speaking exercises.

Workshops for primary school teachers are being held on Tuesday, and on September 2, 9 and 14. Those for secondary school teachers are being held on Thursday and on August 31, and on September 7 and 16. Sessions start at 8.30 a.m. and end at noon.

Each workshop is limited to 10 people. For bookings visit www.esumalta.org, go to the ‘Workshops’ menu and click on ‘Introduction to Oracy’.
