Companies are mostly driven to invest in IT security to avoid negative publicity, sabotage, espionage, and external hackers, Michael Bürger, Oracle product director of security for southeast Europe, told an IT security workshop organised by Malta-based RS2 Software plc.

He pointed out that compliance is by far the leading motivator behind organisations' investment in security. Insider threats, auditing and data privacy, and increasing regulations calling for strict internal controls to protect the privacy of employees and customer data, also contribute to demand for IT security products.

The event, held at the Westin Dragonara Resort, was organised in collaboration with Oracle, the world's largest business software company.

"RS2, an Oracle certified partner, is backed by years of experience in the provision of security in the financial services field and offers its world-renowned security solutions," RS2 Software's chief tech- nical officer Godwin Schembri said.

"RS2's technical resources are highly skilled in the use of the latest Oracle technology which offers refined database security for government and commercial organisations."
