The Opposition is ready to accept the invitation of the Minister for Education for talks on amending the legal notice which enables the minister to request and be given personal data on all students of whatever age, Opposition leader Simon Busuttil said.

Speaking at a meeting with various students’ bodies today, Dr Busuttil said that the legal notice was giving the minister ‘dangerous’ Big Brother powers.

Dr Busuttil praised the University Students’ Council for having been among the first to express its concerns.

The PN, he said, would continue to insist that the legal notice should be revoked.

A debate in parliament is due to be held on Monday.

Those present for the meeting included representatives of the University Students’ Council, Studenti Junior College,Mcast students’ representatives, the Gozo University Group, The Christian Democrat Students and Pulse.
