Opposition leader Joseph Muscat hoped that next year would bring about stability with everyone being concentrated on the needs of families and businesses.

In his New Year greetings, Dr Muscat said stability had to be ensured with progress, even in changes and choices that are needed. The people knew that hope was stronger than fear.

Dr Muscat said that 2011 had been significant for a number of reasons, most significantly for the people's choice in favour of the introduction of divorce, the rebirth of the Mediterranean and the euro crisis.
