Opposition leader Simon Busuttil asked in Parliament today whether Parliamentary Secretary Ian Borg would be suspended by the prime minister while he was being investigated by the Commission Against Corruption.
Rising in parliament, Dr Busuttil asked the prime minister whether he would make a statement after it was revealed that the Ombudsman in a report which had been handed to the Commission Against Corruption, said that Dr Borg and Mepa used 'devious and deliberate methods' for the granting of permits to a property belonging to Dr Borg.
This meant, Dr Busuttil said, that Dr Borg had tried to mislead, such as by using other people's names.
He asked if the prime minister would make a statement, whether it was business as usual or whether he would act against the parliamentary secretary.
Parliament had a situation where its oldest member (Joe Debonop Grech) had warned a fellow MP nigi u nifqeghek and the youngest member (Ian Borg) was using devious methods, Dr Busuttil observed.
Would the prime minister take action?
Dr Muscat said procedure was not being followed. He said that once proceedings were finished he would make statements which would include an explanation of inaccuracies in what was stated by the Ombudsman.
In the meantime he had nothing to add, Dr Muscat said.
