The Opposition was alive and strong and it was making a difference, Opposition leader Simon Busuttil said this morning.

Speaking during a fund-raising marathon for the Nationalist Party at its headquarters in Pieta, Dr Busuttil said that the Opposition had made a different, for example, in the hot citizenship issue.

For although the law had been approved by Parliament with a majority of nine, the Opposition had showed enough resistance for the government to return to the negotiating table.

And on Thursday, Finance Minister Edward Scicluna admitted in the European Parliament that the scheme was hasty and wrong and repeated the same objections to the scheme that were made by the Opposition.

If the government really wants an agreement, it should listen, Dr Busuttil said, adding that what Prof. Scicluna said proved that the opposition was right and that it was being constructive.

Dr Busuttil appealed to the people to visit or call the Nationalist Party with their donation to help the PN continue to be a strong opposition.

Deputy leader Mario de Marco also appealed to the people to show solidarity with the party and be part of its renewal.

Donations can be made by calling 5170 2008 (€15), 5180 2011 (€25), 5190 2050 (€50) or SMS on 5061 8928 (€6.99).
