The police have arrested two Palestinians residing in Kappara and Birzebbuga and a Sudanese residing in Birzebbuga following an opium find yesterday.

They said in a statement that some 520 grammes of prepared opium was found under the driver’s seat of the car the three men were in. Another 580 grammes were found during a search at the Birzebbuga apartment where one of the Palestinians and the Sudanese lived.

Prepared opium is abused as a drug and can be processed into heroin, the police said.

An inquiry is being held by duty magistrate Anthony Vella.
