Champions Depiro Still started the defence of their title with a good victory over Luxol Vodafone.

Their rivals Hibs Go Mobile carried too much ammunition for Kerygma while in the third match, Hamrun Liberty struggled to defeat newcomers Qormi Quick Shot.

Depiro set the ball rolling in the women's league, never giving Luxol a chance to trouble them in their opening match.

The young Luxol side found the going tough from the outset as Depiro led 22-12 by half-time. With Luxol unable to raise their tempo, Depiro emerged winners 51-29.

Hamrun met strong resistance from a Qormi team who took some time to settle down but came more into the picture in the second session to trail 26-22 by half-time.

Hard as they tried, Qormi could not cancel out the deficit and eventually lost the match 43-38.

Hibernians were easy winners against Kerygma.

An indifferent start saw Hibs only 12-10 ahead at the end of the first session but thereafter, Mario Tabone's girls lifted their game to take a comfortable 46-12 lead by half-time. Hibs went on to win 80-40.
