Santa Marija Tower on Comino will be open to the public on Saturday from 11am to 7pm.

Din l-Art Ħelwa volunteers will escort visitors around the site and give historical information about the watch tower, built in 1618 during Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt’s reign. Re-enactors in period uniform will stage displays of garrison life in and around the tower.

There will be treasure hunts with prizes to be discovered and won.

Local original craft items made with natural or recycled materials such as drift wood, sea glass and metal will be on display.

The activity is being held by Din l-Art Ħelwa in collaboration with the Historical Re-enactment Group of Malta and Comino Volunteers to mark the national trust’s 50th anniversary.

Admission is free but donations for the tower’s upkeep will be appreciated.

On the same day the Festa ta’ Kemmuna is being held to revive the traditional feast at the Santa Marija chapel on Comino. Mass at 6pm, celebrated by Gozo bishop Mario Grech, will be followed by band marches and a folk evening.
