The number of inmates at the Corradino Correctional Facility (CCF) who are taking up various subjects to study is 216, out of a population of 610.

The greatest numbers are studying English (34), first aid (19) and for the European Computer Driver’s Licence (18). Others are studying electronics, food preparation and production, environmental landscaping and drama – as well as guitar, hip-hop and yoga.

Twenty-nine others are studying a variety of languages (Maltese, French, Spanish, Italian), and seven have chosen computer awareness.

Ten are studying Maltese for Foreigners.

Answering a parliamentary question by Jason Azzopardi (PN), Home Affairs Minister Emanuel Mallia said inmates studying outside the prison premises could use the particular school’s library and the internet. Others studying inside the CCF could use the facility’s library or, if the needed material was not available, they could subscribe to the National Library at Beltissebħ or do research on the internet under the supervision of the Education Coordinator.
