Fewer enterprises sold online last year compared to 2014, according to national data.

Results of a survey published yesterday show that 97.8 per cent of enterprises employing at least 10 people in 2015 used computers, while 96.9 per cent also used the internet. However, the data registered a decrease of 1.4 percentage points in enterprises selling online.

While computer and internet usage rates remained almost unchanged when compared to 2014 figures, enterprises employing more than 249 people achieved 100 per cent usage levels during the year under review.

Results show that enterprises are opting for higher maximum contracted download speeds when choosing their internet services.

Meanwhile, more than 81 per cent of enterprises had mobile access to the internet – an increase of 1.1 percentage points over 2014.

Enterprises provided a mobile internet connection to 36 per cent of their workforce.

This means that 13,144 employees could connect remotely to the internet using a connection provided by their employer, translating to an average of 12 employees per enterprise.

The survey also showed that nearly three fourths of enterprises that used the internet also made use of social networks, while 86 per cent had their own website.

Data on cloud computing meanwhile showed that there were 37.5 per cent more enterprises making use of such services when compared to the previous year.
