70 per cent of all carbon dioxide emissions on the Maltese islands is produced by energy power plants (National Allocation Plan for Malta). This energy mainly supplies electricity to our houses and to industry, and to desalinating plants to produce potable water.

By using resources such as water and electricity responsibly we can reduce our effects on the climate significantly.

What can I do?

• Save water and energy.

• Insulate your home against energy loss.

• Use daylight as much as possible.

• Switch off lights and appliances which are on unnecessarily.

• Do not leave water running.

• Set your air-conditioner at a reasonable temperature and switch it off while you are out.

• Utilise rainwater for daily activities such as washing clothes, washing the car and watering plants as much as possible.
