A general election, a wedding and the local feast, all on the same day. Within the same family. No one wants to give in. And while everyone tries to hold on tight to the traditions that make us who we are, no one wants to accept that in Malta, we are no longer what we used to be.

Repubblika Immakulata is a new piece written by Simone Spiteri. Co-produced between Spazju Kreattiv and Du’ Theatre, it includes the participation of Andrè Agius, Magdalena van Kuilenburg, Mark Mifsud, Kristjana Casha Akkartal, Ryan Cutajar, Andrè Mangion and Pierre Stafrace.

Meanwhile, Teatru Malta and Spazju Kreattiv have teamed up for another season of Taħdita Teatru, which aims to listen, archive, document, and debate contemporary theatre in Malta.

Developed around and focused on both the Teatru Malta and the Spazju Kreattiv theatre programmes, the series creates space for engagement and community discussion between creatives and the public to applaud, share and network.

Each event forming part of this series aims to mould the experience of both viewer and maker into a culturally sustainable body of documentation, which will focus on exploration and critical analysis.

Its next Taħdita Teatru event takes place tomorrow at 10.20pm following Repubblika Immakulata, which starts at 8pm.

The panel will be made up of writer, director Simone Spiteri and Marco Galea, a senior lecturer in Theatre Studies, and Toni Attard as moderator.

Repubblika Immakulata is taking place at Spazju Kreattiv Theatre, Valletta tonight, tomorrow and Sunday and on April 5, 6 and 7 at 8pm. For tickets call St James Cavalier on 2122 3200 or visit https://ticketenginex.kreattivita.org.
