A one-hour solidarity strike has been ordered by the Malta Dockers Union at the Freeport and Valletta Gateway Terminals on Tuesday between 8 and 9am.

The MDU said the strike was being called to support Portuguese port workers in their fight against the new Ports Law. It was ordered by the European section of the International Dockworkers Council.

The stoppage is also coinciding with The European Ports Policy Review Conference, organised by the European Commission, being held in Brussels on Tuesday.

MDU president Joe Saliba and secretary Clinton Sammut will be taking part in the conference where they will reiterate the union's  position to strongly oppose any attempt by the Commission to legislate European port labour services.
