Eight scratch trotting events on the long 2,640 metres distance were run during yesterday's 46th meeting of the season at the Marsa Racetrack. As in most cases, the Class A1 race was the highlight of the programme.

Braveheart looked all set to collect honours in the top class race after leading from the start. Some 200 metres from the post, David Ellul's One For The Moon, in its third outing in Malta, increased its pace and managed to overtake the erstwhile leading horse on the finishing line.

X Ray Goj was third horse in. One For The Moon clocked an average of 1'17.4'' per kilometre in its first victory in Malta.

Class A also turned out to be a very interesting race with the lead alternating between several horses. That was until veteran driver George Schembri pushed Cost A Lot ahead of the field at the 200m mark from the post to go on and win both event and promotion to Class A1.

First place in the first of the two Class B events went to Joseph Scicluna's Balsna Star after it seized the lead 1,000m into the race. At the post, this winner was two lengths ahead of second horse in, Los Mikael.

In the second Class B race, Elsam, driven by Joseph Portelli, led early on, surrendered first position to Junior Comet but regained it in the final metres to secure victory. Both Class B winners earned promotion to Class A.

Real King, driven by Sam Cassar, registered its second win on the trot after leading for most of the distance in Class C.

The next horse racing meeting at Marsa will be held on Friday, starting at 7 p.m.
