An exhibition which tells the story of cultural exchanges along the Silk Road through women’s experiences and viewpoints will open its doors to the public next week.

The Silk Road started off as an actual trade route from China to Europe. It is nowadays a concept that refers to cross-cultural exchanges and which encourages communication between the West and the East.

Seven female artists are bringing this concept to life at the China Cultural Centre in Valletta through a series of 27 pieces.

Silk Road Culture Tour – Code of Love – Contemporary Chinese Female Art Exhibition is part of the CCC’s Women’s Culture Month celebrations.

The exhibition, which is touring the world, was launched this week, and will be open free of charge from Wednesday April 5 until April 13. Visitors are welcome between Monday and Friday from 9am until 12.30pm and from 2.30pm to 5pm.

For Chen Shenglai, director of the National Base for International Cultural Exchange and Research, the exhibition is not only an activity for international cultural exchange, but also an opportunity for everyone to gain a new perspective on Chinese feminine art.

“It highlights the peerless elegance of the Chinese female, with the more recently acquired sense of self-esteem, self-confidence, self-reliance and self-improvement. It is believed that this world tour will be a new page in the history of Chinese feminine art.”

The artists who created the pieces on display in Malta are Zhang Ping, Wang Yichu, Zhao Aihua, Meng Xiangqi, Luo Yi (who attended the launch), Zhao Changzhu and Shi Guangbo.
