Works continue on a building just off the junction near the Labour Party club in Birkirkara. Scaffolding makes use of the pavement impossible and a notice informs pedestrians to use the pavement opposite. Should there not be some form of path that offers people a safe passage? Which safety watchdog should be barking, and biting, in this case?

Vacant counters

A customer needing to do a transaction walked into the Bank of Valletta branch in Republic Street, Valletta, one day last week to realise only two of the six counters were manned. All the chairs available for waiting customers were occupied, which means the demand was there. And this was soon after opening hours. To be fair, the two cashiers were very efficient.

Road block

Motorists heading towards Mater Dei Hospital from the direction of Kappara  through St Julian Street are met with a sign with the word diversion written on it and an arrow pointing to the right. They follow the sign into St Joseph Street and have two routes to take: either straight up or turn left into the road leading to Begonia Street. Problem is there is a ‘No entry’ sign at both ends. What are they supposed to do?

Mounds of rubbish

As many took to the streets of Victoria last week to celebrate the Santa Marija feast, residents were disappointed to find mounds of rubbish on the streets. This is not an isolated case: other residents from different localities often complain of the mess left after village feasts. Keep Malta tidy must start from the local level.

Inconsiderate motorists

Cars blocking the entrance to the pedestrian area at Castille Square, Valletta, seem to have become the order of the day. This is not the first time the issue has been highlighted in this column, yet, it seems that no action is being taken because vehicles are still regularly parking in such a way that forces those walking through the square to either jump over the bollards or share the road with traffic.
